About Caernarfon

Overlooking the Menai Straits, Caernarfon is a small town in North West Wales. The town is a great draw for tourists and sits on the River Seiont’s banks, kept safe by the imposing Caernarfon Castle which has repelled siege and attack for hundreds of years. The castle was built in the reign of Edward I as part of the “Ring of Iron” defences which were constructed in the late 1200s to keep Wales’ unruly natives in check. Today the castle is a World Heritage Site, and is well worth a visit.

There’s a lot more of Wales’ history to discover if you decide to take a holiday rental in Caernarfon. The Martitime Museum in the town is well worth a visit, as is the Inigo Jones Slate Works, which now also operates as a museum. Recently restored is a three mile stretch of Welsh Highland Railway just outside Caernarfon, which has been wonderfully restored and now takes passengers.

Also nearby to Caernarfon is the Snowdonia National Park, which offers fantastic scenery and challenging walking just a few miles away. And it’s good to know that, whatever you choose to do in Caernarfon, there’s a huge range of holiday rentals and accommodation to suit your needs and budget. Whether you’re looking for a boutique bed and breakfast or more rugged outdoor camping, there’ll be the perfect holiday rental just around the corner.
