About Holyhead

The largest town in Anglesey, Holyhead is most well known as the major port for ferries to Ireland. Ferries run across to Dublin in little more than an hour and a half, making a day trip across to the Irish capital easily achievable, and Holyhead’s streets are often filled with tourists looking to make the trip.

However, there is more to Holyhead than just a ferry port. The town has a good range of excellent holiday rentals – whether you’re looking for a hotel or guesthouse, or want camping and caravanning sites – and has a wealth of interesting attractions, shops and restaurants as well as a cinema and theatre. Holyhead also boasts a fabulous arts centre – the Ucheldre Centre – which is housed in a converted church and plays host to some fantastic music and drama events. All in all, it’s no surprise that holiday makers come here – whether just as a stop off on their way to Ireland, or as a base for exploring the Isle of Anglesey.

Around Holyhead there is fantastic golfing, fishing, and, naturally, sailing facilities. Added to this is amazing scenery, beautiful walking and some fabulous beaches, meaning that visitors can easily relax and enjoy their time at a Holyhead holiday rental. Holidaymakers looking for some active pursuits should head for a walk down to the interesting South Stack Lighthouse – reached by a steep four hundred step descent down to the offshore rock - or try out the exhilarating Lon Las Cymru Cycle Route, which starts in Holyhead.

History buffs will find a wealth of prehistoric and historic sites close at hand, including the atmospheric church in the sea at Porth Cwyfan and the Barcloddiad Yr Gawres Burial Chambers. The Holyhead Maritime Museum is also worth a trip, to learn about the many shipwrecks that have happened nearby.
