Vacation Rentals in Ysbyty Ifan

Ysbyty Ifan is a small, unspoilt village in Conwy county. This intensely picturesque spot is often labelled as one of the most historical places in the whole of North Wales.

Until the early 1100s, Ysbyty Ifan was known as Dol Gynwal. It then came to the attention of the Knights of St. John, who were gifted the land from Ifan an Rhys of Tre Brys. The Knights changed the settlement’s name and set up an ancient hospice here to care for the sick, and also to act as a place of Sanctuary.

Ysbyty Ifan’s present day church marks the original spot where the Knight’s hospice once stood. The church is relatively modern in historical terms – dating from around 1860 – but contains many remains of the village’s past and of the area’s deep history, such as the memorial honouring Rhys Fawr ap Maredudd; a local nobleman who fought for Henry VII at the Battle of Bosworth Field.

Taking a holiday rental in the village today will give visitors a perfect base to discover more about the local history of Ysbyty Ifan, and also to explore the many attractions and beautiful scenery of the Snowdonia National Park. There are a number of holiday rentals around to choose from – most of which are self-catering, traditional Welsh cottages.

There are also lots of pretty walks that range through the village, including a lovely trail that runs past the River Conwy which tumbles through Ysbyty Ifan. Nearby attractions include the magnificent Conwy Castle and the beautiful town of Betws-y-Coed with its fabulous shops and idyllic waterfalls. Just a short step away from Ysbyty Ifan there is also Bala Lake, an immensely popular spot for watersports, and the lovely beaches of the Lleyn Peninsula.

In terms of facilities for holiday makers here, Ysbyty Ifan boasts a small bakery, a village shop and a post office. There is also a café and a children’s playground, and a historic smithy and water mill to admire.
