Vacation Rentals in Malltraeth

Located on the banks of the River Cefni, Malltraeth is a small, peaceful village on the south west coast of Anglesey in Wales. It is best known for the Malltraeth Cob, or dyke, a huge embankment with the Anglesey Coastal Path running over it. The Malltraeth Cob was first constructed in the early 1800s as part of the local flood defences, which allowed the nearby Cefni Marsh to be drained. The marsh is now the location of one of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) reserves, and has also been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The “Cob Pool”, which is enclosed by the Malltraeth Cob is also a nature reserve run by the Countryside Council for Wales.

Malltraeth also attracts many visitors due to its proximity to the Lon Las Cefni cycle track, which can be an exhilarating trail to follow. The village was also draws in many painters and fans of wildlife – Malltraeth was the home of Charles Tunnicliffe, the renowned wildlife painter who established his studio facing the Cefni Estuary. The Anglesey Riverside Studios today run a number of popular painting and drawing courses in his legacy which can be booked up in advance.

There are a number of good holiday rentals available in Malltraeth. A camping and caravanning site sits on the outskirts of the village, and there are a range of lovely self-catering holiday rental cottages, including some on a nearby working farm that looks out onto the wonderful Snowdonia mountain range. In terms of facilities for visitors, Malltraeth benefits from two public houses which serve up an extensive range of meals. There is also a fish and chip shop, which acts as a village shop during the day time, selling all the necessities you could need for your short break or holiday in Malltraeth.
